It is widely known that being active is a key to developing and maintaining many positive aspects of healthy life.
Besides developing a rich and versatile curriculum in other fields of study, at Allison Academy we firmly believe in the importance of athleticism because of the many benefits it brings to students, and not only in terms of sports skills – being athletic means a lot more than just being skillful at physical activities.
Allison Academy Physical Education classes are a great opportunity for students to not only enhance their athleticism, but to develop a unique set of skills – such as teamwork, competitive spirit and confidence – that can only come from leading a healthy lifestyle.
Coach Dominic, better known to students as coach D, highlights the importance of teaching students about the values of sportsmanship.
Sports leading to bigger overall success
Allison Academy believes that students who play sports have better focus and learning capacity, which has a positive impact on their academic life. PE classes teach students to focus and be in control of their body, improving their mental strength, which they certainly need in order to excel in other subjects.
Coach D currently leads mixed-grade P.E. classes. The students are playing basketball and are visibly enjoying every part of the game, enthusiastically participating in teamwork that will lead them to victory.
Student participation in P.E. classes, especially in mixed-grade form, has also shown that they have become better at socializing – many friendships have been forged on the court, which has significantly contributed to both the students’ personal happiness and better teamwork mentality in sports.
Having a great role model matters
Since students usually learn by observing others, they require a good role model in order to be motivated to exercise and adopt the values they are taught.
At Allison Academy we make sure our students have someone to look up to. This is why Coach Dominic, who has taught PE for seven years, is a great mentor to our students who participate in sports.
Coach D accentuates the significance of teaching the fundamentals of teamwork in PE, given that this is the mindset they will need in the future in order to be successful and have a healthy mind and body.
He points out that some students choose to play sports just to get back into shape, while others are true athletic types who play different sports for the sake of the game and the rush it brings.
At Allison Academy we train our students to excel in all fields
For every student at Allison, PE classes are a special kind of journey that progresses constantly. Playing sports improves many aspects of the students’ academic and personal life. Through PE, they learn how to be more focused, grounded, present, confident and most importantly – they develop healthy habits.
And as the old proverb says — A healthy mind in a body!
