Before the official start of the school year, our students had the opportunity to visit the school to meet and greet their teachers, receive the class schedules and do a walkthrough prior to the first day. Returning students had a chance to see old friends and meet new families joining Allison Academy for the first time. This informal interaction eases some of the first-day jitters, and allows students to interact more freely before they find themselves in the classroom.
Our first day back in classes was action packed with ice-breakers and activities that enable students to get to know each other, share some of their backgrounds, and make connections.
In true Allison Academy fashion, we could not send our students home the first week without some challenging motivation. Student pairs put their learned knowledge to work against other teams in our first Trivia face-off of the school year. The ‘Back to School Trivia and Cupcakes’ presented an opportunity for students to activate prior knowledge, practice working in teams, communicate with a partner, and freshen up on some trivia facts.
Allison Academy’s permanent goal to provide a positive, engaging optimal learning experience for all our students remains forefront in all the activities, lessons, and interactions we have with our students.
