Mrs. Milner’s middle school World Geography class learned about South America, including embarking on a virtual trip to the Amazon Rainforest.
As part of this lesson the students were assigned a performance-based task and hands on research project. They were given different types of rainforest animals to research. Included in this project was also putting together an informative poster to present to the class. The middle school class executed their presentations with ease and the presentations all exemplified great prowess.
Why is this topic important?
South America is a continent that has the largest tropical rainforest – the Amazon Rainforest, and knowledge of it is considered general culture.
Further, young people need to be aware of how important the Amazon is to all of us.
This rainforest is one of the most valuable resources for the fight against climate change that the world has. The Amazon Rainforest absorbs huge amounts of carbon dioxide and produces oxygen, which makes it a treasure on our planet.
At Allison Academy we learn important things in a fun way
The virtual journey through the Amazon Rainforest that Allison Academy has provided to its students is a creative way to learn and raise awareness about this important topic. Also, with the hands-on research projects and informative posters that the students created, they simultaneously learned about the importance of the Amazon for our planet, the different species of rainforest animals that exist, and practiced their presentation skills in front of the class. This all makes learning at Allison Academy interactive, effective and unique.
