The time for Allison Academy’s Annual Reptile Show has come. This is one of the happenings at the school that most of our students love and are excited about. The show is all about giving and showing love to animals and befriending them, and experiencing a face-to-face encounter with some truly exotic species!
The show was hosted by our very own 11th-grade student Miles’ Reptile Show. Miles has been an Allison Academy student since he was in 6th grade and has brought the Reptile Show each year ever since. What’s so special about this show is that it is also an educational journey through exotic wildlife and its relationship with the natural world, which we do not get to see often.
And that is exactly why Allison Academy makes space for opportunities for our very own students to engage with and contribute to the school activities – because their individual passions and hobbies are truly something to admire and share with their fellow classmates!
Hanging out with the snakes
The exciting encounter of our students with the reptiles has made a lasting impression on everyone who attended.
The cafetorium transformed once again this week to host this exciting event. Reptile expos are always an interesting experience where you get to see some rare species, and Miles annually brings his scaled buddies to school to introduce them to his schoolmates and teach them more about their habits and heritage.
Having the reptiles visit our school is always exciting for everyone involved, the reptiles included. This fun and educational show allow students to interact with these small (except the python) and interesting creatures. Students chilled with the snakes befriended them, and were not scared of them at all! On the contrary – they petted them, let them hang around their shoulders, and took some really cool pictures!
Learning about the exotic side of the natural world
Allison Academy always makes sure that the time we spend with each other outside class is also educational!
Miles cares for these animals and does educational shows on weekends. His passion for exotic pets is truly something to be appreciated, and we certainly do that every time he brings his unconventional pets to school for us to play with them and also learn something new!
Moreover, it is a most valuable learning experience since Miles not only teaches students about extinct animals and those at risk of extinction, but he also introduces the lineage and natural habitat of each animal as well as ways to help raise awareness, get involved, and preserve these precious creatures.
And as students met the reptiles in person, being really close to them made them get rid of any fear they may have had of reptiles because they saw them as dangerous and terrifying. However, these ones are really good-natured animals who love to be petted and played with!
In the end, learning about the reptiles’ habits and behavior every year contributes significantly to students feeling closer to natural life and respecting every part of it. By teaching students to respect animals, we enable them to become even better people.
