Dr. Allison’s Message

The 2019-2020 school year has passed quickly filled with numerous educational activities and experiences for our students. Our students continue to push boundaries, seek out new challenges, and motivate each other creating a school atmosphere that enhances determination, academic, and personal growth.

In the first quarter of this school year our field trip to Rapids Water Park gave students the opportunity to reconnect and to establish new connections. Students also traveled to Key Largo and visited John Pennekamp for the glass bottom boat ride to see the coral. Ninth grade science students built and launched rockets getting hands-on experience on Newton’s Laws of Motion and forces of gravity. The Science Club is conducting active research in link with NASA and Fairchild Botanic Gardens. Students have also made course specific visits to the Broward County Court House, to colleges of interest, the Everglades, and an overnight visit to Tampa. Our campus has been visited by various guest speakers who have introduced and exposed students to imminent topics. Representatives from several colleges and universities have visited our campus to encourage and promote their universities.

We are proud of our students’ accomplishments in competitions that reach outside our school environment including 26 of our middle school students whose poetry was selected to be published in the hardcover book called “A Celebration of Poets”. We are equally proud of our student athletes who participated in basketball and volleyball, as well as our musicians in the rock/jazz band, and students who are active in student government.

The Allison Academy program with our exceptional curriculum and all of our activities would not be possible without our highly professional and dedicated staff. We have expanded our environment with a variety of electives including a popular science elective, life skills/culinary arts, introduction to law class, robotics, coding, chorus, drama, guitar, and art.

We remain committed to thoughtful and incremental initiatives each year to help our school improve and better prepare our students for their futures andstrive in helping our seniors find the right college or university uniquely suited to their talents and interests. We are always vigilant continuing to improve our safety and security measures for our students.

We invite you to visit our campus and learn more about our amazing curriculum and extra-curricular activities.

Dr. Allison’s broad perspective on learning communities uniquely positions her to evaluate Allison, and to answer for prospective students and families, this fundamental question: Why Allison?

Evaluating the options offered by private schools can be overwhelming. Every prospective student and parent must wonder why Allison might be right for them. How would you respond to the question Why Choose Allison Academy?
Dr. A: The answer starts with discussing how Allison Academy possesses the qualities most people associate with all good private schools. Small classes, excellent teachers, and very high academic standards stand at the center of our mission. We emphasize the development of strong reading, writing, research, and computational skills, and at the same time, we infuse our students with a passion for learning.
That alone seems to provide the information people need to make their decision?
Dr. A: To some extent, yes, but families also understand that every school has its own unique set of qualities, and they are seeking the best possible match. The challenge for families is to understand what distinguishes one school from another and how those distinguishing features might pertain to the needs and aspirations of their student.
So what distinguishes Allison Academy from its peers?
Dr. A: First of all, I would cite the strength and nature of the Allison community. In the most general sense, our community is caring and supportive, qualities that are manifest in our core relationships. For example, students benefit from teachers who work hard and effectively to support them academically and in their extra-curricular pursuits. It is also true that our students are supportive of one another; and they derive additional comfort from the support of their parents and even the parents of their friends. Students at Allison feel accepted and affirmed for who they are, even as they are encouraged to improve themselves in numerous ways.
Any final thoughts on why families should choose Allison?
Dr. A: Speaking with absolute objectivity… I can say as Head of School, a career educator, and a mother of two… that Allison is a very special place. Our community is grounded and representative of the larger society of which we are a part. We have a traditional reverence for academics, and we are equally committed to ensuring that our students grow through involvement in the arts, athletics, and service. Our school culture is one that values achievement and aspiration, and we pursue these goals through support and encouragement. In the end, we could not be more proud of the students who graduate from Allison Academy. And we welcome, in equal measures of pride and anticipation, the new families who join our community each year.
