Black History Month
Reporter: Kyle Fitch
During Black History Month Coach Edwards arranged a luncheon for the Allison Academy and students were asked to bring in ethnic foods. The students brought in macaroni and cheese, chicken wings, different types of rice, chicken drumsticks, green beans, corn bread, ziti with tomato sauce, conch salad, and cake. During the luncheon some of the student’s parents came in to help out with the food distribution, Calah Williams’ grandmother, and Naysha Bouzi’s mother, among others.
The student government sold three different types of Black History Month T-shirts to show appreciation for the people who helped to lead the way to equality for African Americans. Each shirt had a different black history month figure. One shirt had Rosa Parks, another shirt had Martin Luther King, and the third shirt had Coretta Scott King. The students were able to wear the shirts to school every Tuesday and Thursday, and especially for the luncheon.
The students were very cooperative and supportive during Black History Month by wearing their special shirts to school and bringing in food for the luncheon. This showed that the students had a lot of school spirit, and interest in Black History Month.
